introducing Stephanie Forest's astro -discovery of APDM

ALL PLANETS IN DIRECT MOTION
by Stephanie Forest

As astrologers we take note of the retrograde cycles of the planets, only what about those periods of time when all the planets are in their direct motion?
While there may be an astrological name or even an astronomical term for those periods, I am not aware of it, so I have taken the liberty of giving it the acronym APDM for All Planets in Direct Motion.

APDM was revealed to me in the evening on Nov. 27th, 2008, Thanksgiving Day. After a very pleasant family dinner, a captivating conversation ensued with a friend of mine who researches economic and governmental conspiracy theories, and it was from this discussion that I thought about the possible significance of APDM: the topic of family dynasties (Capricorn) secretly controlling the economy (Pluto) compelled my attention to wonder about where were the literal placements of Pluto and Capricorn. Jumping off the couch, I reached for my Ephemeris.*

The evening before, on November 26, Pluto, having just exited Sagittarius in its final pass, Pluto ingressed into the earliest degrees of Capricorn. The air became charged with that heightened magnetic quality often appearing during and right after a perfect piece of synchronicity. I looked at my ephemeris again and noticed Uranus had entered the “still point’** and had just stationed direct that morning at 18 degrees Pisces 44 on November 27th at 11:09 am EST only hours after Pluto had moved into Capricorn.

Upon seeing this I thought to myself, what a totally unique day was this Thanksgiving 2008 with both Uranus and Pluto taking on entirely new manifestations potently effecting the whole solar system and within less than a few hours of one another.

Another glance at the ephemeris yielded more information: from the morning of Nov. 27th until the afternoon on Dec 31st, (2:08 pm EST), no other planets were retrograde. APDM started when Uranus went direct on November 27, 2008 and ended on December 31, 2008, when Saturn stationed retrograde. This retrograde-less period made me wonder about other periods when all the planets were in direct motion and to consider the implications of a month without any retrograde planets at all. I thought about my natal chart having at least three retrograde planets and how most charts almost always indicate at least one retrograde, and then i quickly realized astrologers rarely delineate a chart specifically observing it’s lack of retrograde planets as a significant consideration to the chart’s overall intent or meaning. They always look at the quantity and quality of the planets that are retrograde.

So how often does APDM occur?
When is the next APDM?
It seemed a worthy project to create a table of periods when the planets –Mercury through Pluto—would simultaneously be moving in direct motion.

The Table covers 10 years of APDM, which occurs eight times. Other than these eight times when APDM occurs, throughout the remainder of the every year, there is at least one planet in retrograde motion.

Table of Objective Data: All Planets Direct Motion APDM)

(Nov.27, 2008 – March 9, 2018)

Nov. 27 - Dec. 31, 2008 – approximately 35 day. Begins with Uranus direct
and ends with Saturn retrograde

Dec.1 - Dec. 20 – 2009 – approximately 19 days. Begins with Uranus direct
and ends with Mars retrograde.

*correction (added on 3/20/10) - the next APDM is Dec. 5th 2010 - Dec 10th, 2010.
We now have a computer program to gather the data whereas before it was always done
by eye with possibility for error. please include this new date in your notes.

Dec. 30, 2010 - Jan 26, 2011 – approximately 28 days. Begins with Mercury direct and ends with Saturn retrograde.

Dec. 25, 2011 - Jan 23, 2012 – approximately 31 days. Begins with Jupiter direct
and ends with Saturn retrograde.

Jan. 30 - Feb 18, 2013 – 20 days – Begins with Jupiter direct
and ends with Saturn retrograde.

Dec. 25. 2015 - Jan 8, 2016 – 14 days - Begins with Uranus direct
and ends with Jupiter retrograde.

Jan 8, 2017 - Feb 6, 2017 – 30 day. Begins with Mercury direct
and ends with Jupiter retrograde.

Jan 2, 2018 - March 8, 2018 – 67 days. Begins with Uranus direct
and ends with Jupiter retrograde.

APDM happens approximately once a year in this 10-year span with about a year in between reoccurrences. The most recent APDM took place December 1-20th, 2009, beginning with Uranus stationing direct, and ending with Mars stationing retrograde. There won’t be another APDM period until December 30th, 2010, when Mercury stations direct. This APDM timing ends on January 26th, 2011 when Saturn stations retrograde.

The shortest APDM period lasts for two weeks at the end of 2015 into 2016. The longest period of APDM during this 10-year span is in 2018 when APDM occurs for just over two months. Note that APDM does not occur at all in 2014.
The exact number of days between each APDM in the Table does not reveal any kind of obvious order. Its duration, also at random lengths, doesn't appear to have regular cycles as we know them.

Because the outer planets, Pluto, Neptune and Uranus, are in Capricorn and Aquarius and Pisces, and because these planets spend longer times in retrograde, and because they actually retrograde during the summer, when they are in opposition to the Sun, in the signs of Cancer, Leo and Virgo, APDM is occurring more often in the winter.

I’ve only just begun to do the research to discover if APDM periods indicate a certain energy that does not occur at times when even one planet is retrograde.

I’d like to invite any of our brilliant astro-computer programmers and engineers interested to consider including APDM in their upcoming software program updates.
I have already charted APDM for the 20th and half of the 21st century in addition to the above table, and the research could prove fruitful.

While i have given the name All Planets in Direct Motion, my sense is for astrologers to collectively work with APDM and begin to take notes for when we experience it in real time as well as keep a look out for it when reviewing natal or mundane charts. Over time astrologers may begin to define additional virtues and qualities specific to APDM. We may find it significant to consider exactly which planet leads into and which planet concludes the time period of APDM. When APDM was revealed to me, Uranus was the lead into APDM with its own impulse and influence. On the other hand, research could prove that APDM means nothing at all.

Only just for a moment, suppose we were to imagine an intrinsic meaning in association to APDM. The immediate consideration might be an obvious one - i.e. All Planets in Direct Motion impresses the individual or the event with a natural sense of being supported by the universe to move forward into the stream of life with an accompanying disposition of velocity and confidence. APDM may give an intention to the chart yielding a ‘no holding back’, and an ‘all systems go’ kind of orientation. It could be the birth chart of leaders who may need to be less subjective and more apt to act immediately.

On a whole other tangent, just for the sheer fun of it, we can, just for a moment, bypass the astrologers’ code of insisting upon academic standards of rationality and logic. In keeping with the Turning of the Ages.... we can stimulate our collective imagination and unfold the genius of the astrological community:

a) Without the intense subjective personal experience synchronized by the timings of retrograde planets, APDM may give a specialized opportunity to break through the known or unknown limitations imposed upon us from living by clock and calendar. As such, APDM in a counter-intuitive way, may invite a unique focus for meditation. It may also inspire special conditions for other things, such as the potential of finding cures for diseases or actually quickening the speed of healing.

b) Astrophysicists agree the Earth is moving about 66,000 miles per hour relative to the Sun. I propose APDM is exactly the time to attempt to discover and also to implement a way to engage a new technology harnessing the natural potent energy coursing through our galaxy.

c) Our Milky Way is said to be moving approximately 1.3 million miles per hour heading into the direction of the constellations of the Lion and Virgin Priestess, a.k.a Leo - Virgo.**** Again, with this kind of speed and power, maybe it takes just one molecule of APDM-derived Solar System Air Fuel to transfer the energy needs for the whole planet without any harm to human cells. Or just one molecule of APDM-derived sunlight is harnessed to create a powerful new global resource of natural energy

d) From the viewpoint of the Sun, the heliocentric perspective, the whole solar system is seen as APDM, i.e. there are no retrogrades from the view of the Sun. In light of this, I further propose there could be another more spiritual or mystical name and experience intended for APDM. Perhaps astrologers can harmonize on this new name the way astronomers do when they choose a name for the discovery of new planetary bodies.

I would like to create a resource for and from those who would like to share their dreams, illusions, imagination and suggestions for either a new name for APDM, or, a new diverse meaning for when all major planets are moving in one direction in our solar system. **#2 - The still point is used to refer to the period of time when a planet hovers for awhile in the same degree until it moves into a new direction, either forward or backward into retrograde

*** #3 – The American Ephemeris doesn’t track Chiron’s daily motion which is the main reason it wasn’t included in the Table. It’s orbit is also unique so there is a need to do further research.
